A first for me: A book I'm reading has a quote at the beginning from another book that I've actually read, and recently at that. This book is What Just Happened by James Gleick and the intro quote is from Mystic River by Dennis Lehane:

"[He] had that weird light in his eyes like he believed what he was saying the way some people believed in God or NASDAQ or the Internet-as-global-village."

So close, and yet so far. I'm making my first hood so I can wear it at Pennsic this year when it gets cold and Nathan can wear my cloak, and it's looking pretty good - light green linen lined with natural raw silk. It's quite warm, and is turning out better than I thought it would. I was so eager to get it just to a point where it looked almost wearable tonight, but I got one step backwards. You know, lining something that has the topology of a macaroni isn't trivial. Okay, so it's not really that hard, but it's easy to get a bit confused. I'm just glad I didn't go trimming stuff before I checked. You know how hard it is to put fabric back on after it's been cut off?
