Today's cool AVSYS shit:

http://www.exile.at/apparition/ -- dancers with projected costumes and projected backgrounds. Very lovely.

Conlon Nancarrow, player-piano experimentalist. (Download a clip of one of his.)

Uberorgan: apparently sounds like nothing more than giant flatulance. Sound clips here, I haven't listened to them yet.

Also started talking about what our final projects are going to be. Ideas include stuff like "do something involving music boxes or player pianos", where someone else in the class has a grandfather who fixes music boxes, an interface probably involving ballet, some music videos, and someone said something about a sarcophagus...

A friend in HS got me hooked on Nancarrow at some point. It's wonderful, mathematical music. There are some awesome instrumental versions I've heard where the patterns were actually separated onto different instruments - that makes it a ton easier to pick out the individual patterns. On the other hand, the somewhat cacophonous nature of the player piano versions is also appealing.

Cool, you've actually heard of one of those topics before. :)

Ain't it, though? Whole class is full of that stuff. I keep meaning to link every class period, but I forget or don't finish the post or something. His del.icio.us page has a lot of it, too. If I haven't linked that meta-link-page already, I'll do it eventually.
