It feels a bit odd, getting word that someone whom you remember fondly from a previous time in your life passed away over a year ago. Even moreso when it was unexpected, preventable, and falls under the category of, "What an awful way to go."

Bye Mike, I always smiled to see you in the lab. Even when you were being a hard-ass. ;)

I found out last year about two of my classmates from college passing away. It was really sad.
