Tonight was fun

First I went to Harvard Square looking for a costume for Boris's luau. I didn't find a grass skirt, but I did find a couple of leis for me and Nathan to wear. Then I got to talk to Nathan for a half hour or so, which was really nice because we hadn't talked since I left Rome.
I got back to the hotel and changed out of jeans into something a bit more presentable for the Vis reception. They mentioned this morning that we could wear Halloween costumes to the reception if we were so inclined, so I decided to go with something on the tame scale. I wore my bright red tank top and jacket and put on my little devil horns. At the last minute I decided to leave off the tail, figuring if I felt stupid I could stuff the horns in my purse. Well, there were only a few people dressed up, but I got only positive comments on being brave enough to do something or on actually remembering to bring/wear something.
Then, later, I find out that this guy, Joel Welling, who I've been talking to frequently at the conference (he's around 55 and we were both commiserating about the wireless flakiness) is actually SCAdian, ska Master Sir Maghnus de Cnoc an Iora. Talk about cool! I totally should keep in touch with him. Oh, and this other guy that I keep noticing at the conference (we both think the other one looks familiar but don't know from where) matches the description that Joel gave of another roaming SCAdian attending the conference, this one a Laurel. Anyway, after that spiff revelation, the DJ started playing some decent music and the dance floor called to me, so I joined the grad students already out there. I actually got to do the dancing-in-the-center thing, and got several compliments, which was way cool and a first for me.
Since my Coolness factor was running strong, I requested the DJ play the Ketchup Song to attempt to spread the dance that goes with it. It's this song that Gilbert introduced me to on Saturday, and it has a hand-jive-like choreographed dance, like the Macarena but not as complicated and only during the chorus. Anyway, apparently I judged my coolness factor well enough, because I got most of the group doing the dance with me, and one girl actually asked me if I knew any more songs like that, so it wasn't completely just them humoring me. She mentioned a neat-sounding song from the UK that involves actually sitting on the floor, but she didn't know how it went.
And now it's past midnight, so it's time for sleep. *yawn* Happy Carson. :)
