I'm such a fabric whore.

Nathan claims that I don't use the fabric that I have, so I shouldn't go ordering more. But I don't have any wool! Well, not much. So I just ordered another 11 yards of it. I have plans for it. More or less. I need warmer clothing for winter months, anyway. After this order I'll have fabric for another three cotehardies of various weights. And I have "Fashion In the Age Of the Black Prince" to help me along my quest. And I just got "Textiles and Clothing" from the Museum of London collection. I'm totally turning into a garb junkie. :)

You can NEVER have too much fabric!!! Especially good wool.

I'm getting a terra cotta tropical weight wool in a very subtle plaid (I'm not a plaid person, but plaids are very period, and the pattern is nearly the same color as the ground and it's a small pattern). The other stuff I'm getting is kind of an enh color (grey and light blue diagonal stripes), but it looks very sturdy, very warm, and for 100% wool at $4/yard I can dye it a nice dark blue. It's saying either "cloak" or "spare blanket" to me. I have two cloaks already, but one's more of a summer-weight cloak and the warmer one is more goth than period.

I really am having a craving to sew more. I have three cotes in mind (navy corduroy, purple fulled wool, and the new terra cotta wool), but I first need to make me a pattern, which involves getting someone else to help me pin and fit it. And I need to cut it out, first. Yay, projects! :)

sideless surcote?
why not a fitted coutardie?
with a coif and a wimple or a hennin!

plaid may be period. but plague was period too.

Cote, cotehardie, same idea. :) I do mine fitted through the torso (La Cotte Simple is my friend) with short sleeves, a long-sleeved underdress and tippets. I'll have to research more about the headgear, but I usually go with a hood because I love long dangly liripipes. :D
